Turning Passions Into ProfitsIt is a CD narrated by Dan Miller who is a career coach. Turning Passions Into Profits has changed my outlook towards work and earning a living. Dan talks of several ways that people are earning a living in non-traditional methods. It opened my eyes to the point where I could see others doing similar things around me. Earning a living by doing what interested me never seemed practical or possible until I realized that there were many out there doing just that. All we have to do is look outside the traditional job to see what is out there. When I looked around I saw that there were people out there making a living by juggling, writing, fantasy football, hunting etc. Many are also combining more than one income source, what some refer to as multiple streams of income. My thinking about earning a living changed. Applying our talents and interests are what we were made to do. When we look to the monetary compensation or what others want us to do we are seldom satisfied. You need to take your talents and interests and pursue them with excellence and determination. I grew up in an area where most took a job at the local mill and stayed there for the rest of their life. They were not necessarily happy; it was just what you were supposed to do. This mindset is hard to break and has been a struggle for me. I've made my way around it by keeping my day job while pursuing my small business on the side. If I can make the side business into a success I'll be able to leave the day job behind, earning a living doing what I enjoy.
