How to Survive Without a Salary is written by Charles Long who writes about what he calls the conserver lifestyle which he describes as learning how to get by with less and making do with what you have.

For those in debt this book may seem like a bit too much to swallow but there are some good nuggets of information and advice. In particular the advice on cutting back and living on less can come in real handy if one is trying to get out of debt.

Of course the book is geared to minimizing your lifestyle and living on less as a complete lifestyle but there are a lot of good ideas for those who are trying to get out from under debt and those who just want to cut back.

One new idea in this book is an idea called a material fast where, for a period of weeks or months, you spend the bare minimum. This would allow you to pay off large portions of debt or save a tidy sum. This is an interesting concept that could even lead you to find that there are some things that you no longer need even once the fast is over.

Similar to the book titled Your Money or Your Life this book tends toward the environmental side but it is not overdone. Long also adds a bit of humor, especially some of the conserver methods that he and others have tried that haven’t worked out well.
