Frugal Living Ideas - General purchasing.Negotiate everything. This can be difficult for some but the worst that they can do is say no. Sometimes you can get a better deal if you use cash. There is often an advantage of flashing cold hard cash right in front of them. Many stores will charge more for using a credit card to cover the processing costs. Never be afraid to walk away. Sometimes they will stop you and offer a better price. When purchasing larger items you can always walk away. You’ll still have your money when you walk out. Go ahead and tell them that it is more than you will pay. When purchasing larger items, sales people will often be willing to deal with you. Feel them out to see if you can get a price break. Sometimes it only takes hesitation on your part. Watch for regular annual department store sales. For instance, every January, large retail stores have inventory clearances. Keep a small pocket calendar with a record of when such sales occur, and when you are thinking of making such a purchase, check your calendar for the best time of year to buy. To get good buys you have to look for them. They do not always just fall into your lap. Take a look at public auctions, garage sales, flea markets, individuals, classified ads, coupons, outlet stores and sales. Have patience; most purchases are not that urgent. I will admit that I am not good at all of these but if you try at least a few of them you can save a considerable amount of money.
