Financial Peace Revisited

Financial Peace Revisited by Dave Ramsey

This book is an updated version of the original Financial Peace that includes new chapters on marriage, singles, kids and families.

The beginning of the book tells Dave’s story of how he had it all in his mid-twenties and then lost it all within a few short years. Dave’s story alone is very motivational and that is what I received as the main thrust of this book.

This book is less of a plan for money management than it is more geared toward money philosophy and motivation, which it does a good job of. For someone who wants to learn the Dave Ramsey plan for getting out from under the burden of debt, I would recommend The Total Money Makeover.

As with Mary Hunt, Dave Ramsey is a Christian and it is not hidden in this book. The Christian principles shine through in chapters about marriage, spiritual aspects of money and daily living. Being a Christian myself, the spiritual aspect it is evident throughout the book and welcomed.

At the end of each chapter is a short section called “Thoughts From Sharon”. These are, of course, the thoughts of Dave’s wife. I’ll have to admit that I did not get a lot from these sections of the book.

The appendix of the book contains several “financial management forms”. These forms can be quite helpful and even include sample letters to help you deal with creditors.

One interesting quote that I liked was “The most powerful legacy you can leave is wise, competent children”.

If you are looking for a book about the philosophy of money management and motivation Financial Peace is well worth it.
