Bogle on Mutual Funds
Bogle on Mutual Funds – New Perspectives for the Intelligent Investor
John Bogle is the founder of the Vanguard Group of Investment Companies. Vanguard is an investment company well known for its low cost no nonsense investment strategies. It was Vanguard that I chose to invest with when I was looking for someplace to start investing for my children’s college educations. After much reading and talking with an investment advisor from another firm, I picked Vanguard for their low expenses and ease of investing.
Bogle on Mutual Funds is a mirror of the Vanguard Group. Bogle lays out in a plain straightforward manner the advantages of simple common sense investing and the risks of trying to outguess the stock market.
This book will not give you a pie in the sky dream of becoming rich in the stock market in a couple of years. It is a book espousing the virtues of steady investing for the long term in the whole market through mutual funds. Bogle leaves no stones unturned in this book explaining the whole mutual fund picture. This book is not for you if you are just looking for a quick brush over of mutual funds.
Bogle does an excellent job of using stock market statistics to reinforce his thoughts on investing.
Bogle on Mutual Funds includes a quote from James Vertin that I get a big kick out of; “After twenty years of watching investment practitioners dance around the fire shaking their feathered sticks, I observe that far too many of their patients die and that the turnover of medicine men is rather high. There must be a better way.”
In the years that I have had this book, it is one that I have gone back to time and again, there is a wealth of information for mutual fund investing.
If you want a complete look at mutual funds, Bogle on Mutual Funds is the book.
